Montr\u00e9al, 17\u00a0mars\u00a02019 \u2013 Tout comme l\u2019ont fait ses compatriotes Christa Deguchi<\/strong>, Jessica\u00a0Klimkait<\/strong>, Catherine\u00a0Beauchemin-Pinard<\/strong> et \u00c9tienne\u00a0Briand<\/strong> ces deux derniers jours, le judoka canadien Shady\u00a0El Nahas<\/strong> est aussi mont\u00e9 sur le podium du Grand Chelem d\u2019Iekaterinbourg. Dimanche, l\u2019Ontarien a rafl\u00e9 la m\u00e9daille de bronze chez les moins de 100\u00a0kg.<\/p>\n

Seul Canadien en lice \u00e0 cette derni\u00e8re journ\u00e9e d\u2019action en Russie, El Nahas, 33e au classement mondial, n\u2019a pas d\u00e9\u00e7u. Oppos\u00e9 au Russe Niiaz Bilalov, 17e au monde, dans son combat pour l\u2019obtention de la m\u00e9daille de bronze, le Torontois a tenu bon jusqu\u2019en prolongation o\u00f9 il a marqu\u00e9 un waza-ari pour confirmer sa place sur le podium.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Shady a tr\u00e8s bien fait aujourd\u2019hui. Il a suivi le plan de match et a tout donn\u00e9 \u00e0 chaque combat. Il m\u00e9rite d\u2019\u00eatre sur le podium\u00a0\u00bb a confi\u00e9 l\u2019entra\u00eeneur Sasha Mehmedovic <\/strong>\u00e0 la suite de la victoire du judoka canadien.<\/p>\n

Plus t\u00f4t dans le tournoi, El Nahas s\u2019est tour \u00e0 tour d\u00e9fait du Fran\u00e7ais Cyrille\u00a0Maret et du Br\u00e9silien Leonardo\u00a0Goncalves. En quarts de finale, alors qu\u2019il se mesurait au Russe Arman Adamian, El Nahas s\u2019est vite retrouv\u00e9 au tapis. Adamian, 54e sur l\u2019\u00e9chiquier mondial, l\u2019a projet\u00e9 au sol pour ippon alors que seulement six secondes s\u2019\u00e9taient \u00e9coul\u00e9es au chronom\u00e8tre.<\/p>\n

Le m\u00e9daill\u00e9 d\u2019argent du Grand Chelem d\u2019Osaka l\u2019automne dernier s\u2019est bien repris \u00e0 son combat de rep\u00eachage en vainquant le Letton Jevgenijs Borodavko, ce qui lui a permis de disputer son duel pour le bronze.<\/p>\n

El Nahas a ainsi conclu un week-end fructueux pour les judokas canadiens qui ont remport\u00e9 un total de cinq m\u00e9dailles.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Je suis fier de la fa\u00e7on dont nos athl\u00e8tes ont perform\u00e9 cette fin de semaine. Ils sont venus ici pour amasser des points importants pour leurs qualifications olympiques et c\u2019est exactement ce qu\u2019ils ont fait. Je pense que c\u2019est notre meilleure performance dans un Grand chelem pendant une p\u00e9riode de qualification olympique\u00a0\u00bb, a conclu Mehmedovic.<\/p>\n

Mohab El\u00a0Nahas sur le podium \u00e0 l\u2019Open panam\u00e9ricain<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pour sa part, Mohab El\u00a0Nahas <\/strong>\u00e9tait en action \u00e0 l\u2019Open panam\u00e9ricain de Cordoba, en Argentine, o\u00f9 il a atteint la finale chez les moins de 90\u00a0kg.<\/p>\n

Le Torontois connaissait un parcours parfait, lui qui avait tour \u00e0 tour vaincu par ippon l\u2019Am\u00e9ricain Christopher\u00a0Moulton, le Fran\u00e7ais Antoine\u00a0Lamour et le P\u00e9ruvien Daryl Yamamoto Servan.<\/p>\n

Il a toutefois d\u00fb s\u2019avouer vaincu par ippon lors de la finale, face \u00e0 Yuta Galarreta Villar, du P\u00e9rou, pour conclure sa comp\u00e9tition avec la m\u00e9daille d\u2019argent<\/p>\n

Michael\u00a0Guerault<\/strong> a pour sa part \u00e9t\u00e9 sorti d\u00e8s le premier tour chez les moins de 100\u00a0kg. Il a pli\u00e9 l\u2019\u00e9chine face au Fran\u00e7ais C\u00e9dric\u00a0Olivar, \u00e9ventuel m\u00e9daill\u00e9 d\u2019argent.<\/p>\n

Alexandre\u00a0Arencibia remporte le bronze \u00e0 Co\u00efmbre<\/strong><\/p>\n

Du c\u00f4t\u00e9 de Co\u00efmbre, au Portugal, o\u00f9 se d\u00e9roule une Coupe europ\u00e9enne junior, Alexandre\u00a0Arencibia<\/strong> a d\u00e9croch\u00e9 la m\u00e9daille de bronze chez les moins de 81\u00a0kg.<\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s s\u2019\u00eatre inclin\u00e9 \u00e0 son premier combat par ippon face au Britannique Lachlan Moorhead, le judoka canadien s\u2019est ressaisi, remportant ses trois combats de rep\u00eachage pour obtenir sa place en finale de bronze.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0J\u2019ai perdu mon premier combat, mais j\u2019ai eu la chance de me reprendre. Plus la journ\u00e9e avan\u00e7ait, mieux je me sentais! J\u2019ai \u00e9t\u00e9 patient et j\u2019ai marqu\u00e9 les points au bon moment\u00a0\u00bb, a expliqu\u00e9 Arencibia qui a d\u00e9fait le N\u00e9erlandais Joris\u00a0Hoedeman pour monter sur le podium.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Alexandre n\u2019a pas bien entrepris la journ\u00e9e, mais il s\u2019est vraiment bien repris. C\u2019est un excellent r\u00e9sultat pour lui et c\u2019est le genre de journ\u00e9e qui lui donne de l\u2019exp\u00e9rience\u00a0\u00bb, a quant \u00e0 lui comment\u00e9 l\u2019entra\u00eeneur, Jean-Pierre\u00a0Cantin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u00c9galement en action chez les moins de 81\u00a0kg, Solomon Choran<\/strong> a remport\u00e9 son premier duel face au Portugais Pedro\u00a0Lima avant de subir une premi\u00e8re d\u00e9faite par le Tch\u00e8que Mikulas\u00a0Mesko. Le Britannique Aaron\u00a0Miller a ensuite eu raison de lui au premier tour de rep\u00eachage et il a fini 9e.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Morgan\u00a0McKenzie<\/strong> et Payton Harris<\/strong> ont quant \u00e0 eux \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9limin\u00e9s apr\u00e8s un combat.<\/p>\n

Du c\u00f4t\u00e9 des moins de 100\u00a0kg, Yohan Chouinard<\/strong> a subi deux d\u00e9faites, la premi\u00e8re au premier tour puis la seconde au rep\u00eachage.<\/p>\n

Godbout s\u2019incline en finale de bronze<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chez les femmes, Coralie\u00a0Godbout <\/strong>a particip\u00e9 au match pour le bronze chez les plus de 78\u00a0kg.<\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s avoir remport\u00e9 son premier combat, Godbout s\u2019est inclin\u00e9 face \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9ventuelle gagnante du tournoi, la Polonaise Julia\u00a0Swiatkiewicz.<\/p>\n

Elle a ensuite remport\u00e9 son affrontement en rep\u00eachage contre la Portugaise Catia\u00a0Rosa pour lui permettre de combattre pour la m\u00e9daille de bronze. La Canadienne a toutefois d\u00fb s\u2019avouer vaincue par waza-ari face \u00e0 la Russe Albina\u00a0Cholombitko.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0J\u2019\u00e9tais un peu nerveuse aujourd\u2019hui, mais je suis fi\u00e8re de la mani\u00e8re dont j\u2019ai combattu. J\u2019aurais aim\u00e9 faire mieux dans certains affrontements, mais je suis contente du r\u00e9sultat\u00a0\u00bb, a mentionn\u00e9 Godbout, qui a finalement pris le cinqui\u00e8me \u00e9chelon.<\/p>\n

Pour sa part, Brae Booth<\/strong> (-70\u00a0kg) a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9limin\u00e9e au premier tour de rep\u00eachage. La Canadienne avait \u00e9galement perdu son premier duel du tableau principal. Dans la m\u00eame cat\u00e9gorie, Alexandria Lefort<\/strong> n\u2019a pas franchi le premier tour.<\/p>\n

Finalement, chez les moins de 78\u00a0kg, Anabelle Darlow<\/strong> a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9faite lors de ses deux combats.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Nous avions une jeune \u00e9quipe et nous venions ici pour prendre de l\u2019exp\u00e9rience\u00a0\u00bb, a expliqu\u00e9 Jean-Pierre\u00a0Cantin au sujet des prot\u00e9g\u00e9s de Judo Canada. \u00ab\u00a0Je m\u2019attendais \u00e0 un peu plus de certains athl\u00e8tes, mais, en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, je suis tr\u00e8s satisfait de nos performances.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n
