Mr. Serge A. Piquette passed away on October 31, 2012, following a long battle with an illness.

The Québec and Canadian judo community is mourning his death.

Sixth-degree black belt (rokudan) and founder of the Haut-Richelieu judo club, Mr. Serge Piquette left an indelible mark on the history of Québec and Canadian judo. Mr. Piquette served as president of Judo Québec from 1980 to 1982. He then served as president of the provincial grading board from 1982 to 2002. While president of Judo Canada, Mr. Piquette served as Secretary General for the PJU (Panamerican Judo Union).

An exceptional communicator, Serge Piquette was a radio and television commentator and sport analyst for 25 years. He covered seven Olympic Games between 1976 and 2004.

For his outstanding involvement in judo in Canada, Serge Piquette was inducted in the Judo Québec Hall of Fame in 2002. He was also inducted in the Judo Canada Hall of Fame during Kagami Biraki in January 2012.
