Montréal, July 28, 2013 – Brandon Jobb and Monica Burges took home 5^th place finishes, Sunday, at the Junior European Cup of Judo presented in Liberec, Czech Republic.

Jobb, hailing from British Columbia, cruised through his first three bouts, winning them all by ippon to automatically qualify for the semifinals in the under 90 kg category. He beat the Hungarian Tibor Palej, the Portuguese Cielo Dias and the Austrian Laurin Boehler.

In the semifinals, the British Columbian fell to the Slovenian Mihael Zgank by waza-ari. In the bronze medal final, he was upset by the Dutchman Max De Vreeze, who won with an ippon.

Burges (-70 kg) won his first two bouts (ippon and yuko) before Croatian Barbara Matic stopped her with an ippon in the semifinals. In her 3^rd place bout, the Canadian fell to the Dutchwoman Yvonne Odink, also by ippon.

Also competing in the under 70 kg division, Alix Renaud-Roy took home a 9^th place classification. The Quebecer won her first two fights of the day, both by ippon. In the semifinals, she succumbed to defeat, falling to the Georgian Tea Sukhitashvili. In the repechage, she would run into the tough Odink, who would go on to defeat her second Canadian of the day.

In the under 81 kg class, Ontarian Zachary Burt won his first two bouts by ippon before suffering defeat at the hands of Dutchman Nick Kellij in the final prelim match. In the repechage, he also lost by an ippon, this time to the Czech judoka Petr Jiri. Burt would eventually classify in 9^th place.

Martin Rygielski of Ontario finished with an 0-2 record in the +100 kg category.
