Three Medals for Canada, Including Two Gold, at Veteran World Championships
7 November 2025Montréal, October 27, 2025 – In celebration of World Judo Day, come and discover the sport on “National Bring a Friend to Judo Day!”
In conjunction with the International Judo Federation (IJF)’s World Judo Day, Judo Canada, the provincial judo associations, and participating clubs across the country will host the first-ever National Bring a Friend to Judo Day on October 28. Some clubs may even hold the event as part of a week of festivities.

The goal of the event is to introduce people to the sport of judo in a safe and welcoming environment. It’s the perfect opportunity to discover the many ways judo fosters physical health, self-discipline, and a sense of camaraderie.
Participating dojos will offer open-house training sessions through their clubs, with demonstrations and introductory sessions planned for newcomers.
World Judo Day is held on the birthday of the founder of judo, Jigoro Kano of Japan.
“National Bring a Friend to Judo Day will truly be a celebration of unity and community spirit. The concept is simple: In the days leading up to and following October 28, and of course on the day itself, invite your friends, family, and other acquaintances to come and practise judo with you,” said Nicolas Gill, executive director of Judo Canada.
“Some of them will be happy to simply find out what you love about the sport, while others may wish to learn more about it and pursue it themselves; still others may discover what judo is all about and decide to enroll their children in it one day. It doesn’t matter how old you are, what your gender is, or whether or not you have a disability. Everyone is invited. Judo is not only a sport; it’s also a philosophy and a way of life, and what better way to share it with as many people as possible? So bring a friend!” he added.
Judo Canada invites you to share your success stories with us on social media.
Celebrate judo. Bring a friend. Grow together.
