From June 29 to July 1, over 400 athletes coming from 20 countries will be fighting in Montreal during the Canada Cup, a tournament coming back to life after 25 years. In addition to featuring top athletes who will be at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020, the competition is also one of the qualifying events for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games, held in Argentina in October.

Nicolas Gill, CEO of Judo Canada, made hosting international judo competitions in Canada one of his priorities. The organization of the tournament was made possible thanks to the hard work of his team, but also with the funding from the government: “The financial support from both levels of government is essential for the success of our events, even more so for international events. It allows us to not only host tournaments at home, but also to build relationships and develop expertise that’ll allow us to host even bigger competitions. The province of Quebec represents 50% of our membership, so the city of Montreal was a perfect choice to host this historic first edition.”

Spectators will have a chance to see the best Canadian and foreign judokas at the Claude-Robillard Sports Centre, as well as the Fan Zone, where various exhibitors will be during the 3 days of competition.
