To celebrate the 90th anniversary of the relations between Japan and Canada, Judo Canada has invited a delegation from the Kodokan Judo Institute, mythical dojo called by many the Mecca of judo, for a judo clinic. The delegation will be led by Haruki Uemura, current president of the Kōdōkan and Olympic champion of the Montreal Olympic Games in 1976. He will be travelling with Mikihiro Mukai, Horifumi Otsuji, and Chikara Kariya.

Nicolas Gill, Judo Canada’s CEO/High Performance Director, stated: “For many years, the international relations between our countries have allowed the visit of many champions and important judo schools. Today, we go back to our roots, to the creation of our sport, and we are privileged to celebrate this anniversary with this clinic.”

“The Kōdōkan is the dojo founded in 1882 by Jigorō Kanō, the founder of judo. It’s a great honour and privilege to welcome its current president. The judo community is proud and will benefit from a high-quality technical training,” added Hiroshi Nakamura, Sensei and founder of the Shidokan Judo Club.

The public is invited to come and greet the members of the delegation and watch the training sessions at the Côte-des-Neiges Sports Center (4880 Van Horne Ave, Montreal, H3W 1J3):
