27 May 2026Judo Canada would like to extend its sincere thanks to Tourism Calgary for its outstanding support and partnership in the successful hosting of the 2026 Open National Championships at the University of Calgary Olympic Oval.
From May 14 to 17, Calgary welcomed the Canadian judo community for one of the most important events on Judo Canada’s national calendar. More than 1,100 judokas from across the country gathered in Calgary to compete for national titles, with the event bringing a record number of athletes to the city and showcasing the strength, diversity, and energy of judo in Canada.
The Championships also received valuable media attention, including coverage from CTV News Calgary, which highlighted the national judo competition taking over the Olympic Oval. The Olympic Oval itself described the event as a strong example of sport tourism and the type of major event energy Calgary is able to generate.
Tourism Calgary played an important role in helping make this event a success. Its collaboration, local expertise, and commitment to sport tourism contributed directly to the experience of athletes, coaches, officials, families, volunteers, and spectators who came together in Calgary for this national celebration of judo.
“Tourism Calgary has been an exceptional partner for Judo Canada. Their support and expertise helped us deliver a high-quality national event in a city that understands the value of sport and major events. Calgary provided an outstanding environment for our athletes, coaches, families, and the entire Canadian judo community,” said Nicolas Gill, CEO of Judo Canada.
