Montréal, August 4, 2013 – Alix Renaud-Roy came up just short of the podium in the -70 kg class, Sunday, losing in the bronze medal match at the Junior European Cup of Judo presented in Berlin, Germany. She would go on to claim a 5^th place classification.

 After obtaining a bye into the second round, the Quebecoise judoka lost her first bout, falling at the hands of Dutchwoman Caroline De Wit by a yuko. In the repechage, Renaud-Roy went on a nice run, defeating Germans Sarah Maekelburg (Ippon) and Alina Fiedler (Shido), along with the Dutchwoman Yvonne Odink by a yuko.

 The German Lea Pueschel would eventually bring Renaud-Roy’s tournament to an end, claiming the bronze medal in the process. The contest went the distance, with the German coming out on top due to a shido taken by the Quebecoise.

 In the same division, Ontarian Monika Burgess lost her one and only bout of the day.

 Elsewhere, Ontarian Zachary Burt (-81 kg) won his first two matches before dropping his next two, finishing the competition without a classification.

The British Columbian Brandon Jobb (-90 kg) and Ontarian Martin Rygelski (+100 kg) suffered the same fate.
