Next month, Alix Renaud-Roy will be attending a coaching seminar in Japan, organized by “Solidarity of International Judo Education”. The non-profit organization was established in 2006 to achieve global peace and friendship through the promotion of judo educational values. Several programs have been created to achieve this goal, notably sending equipment and coaches overseas, as well as hosting coaching seminars in Japan.

The seminar will present several classes for coaches. Among others, judo and kata classes, and sports massage and taping classes are scheduled with renowned experts, as well as visits of mythical judo venues in Japan.

Alix Renaud-Roy is aware of the opportunity offered to her with this event: “I’m happy to be going to Japan, and I’m very lucky to have been chosen. It’s a great opportunity for me to go there and to learn about different subjects with experts. I don’t have a lot of coaching experience yet, because I’m still active as an athlete, but I have led trainings in the past, and I enjoy giving time back to my judo community.”

MarIe-Hélène Chisholm, High Performance Manager and Chair of the Women Leadership Committee for Judo Canada, added: “We chose Alix because she’s been very involved in coaching, while still pursuing her athletic career. Whenever there are training camps, she’s always ready to jump in. She has a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, and she’s currently working on her master’s degree. It’s a good thing for Judo Canada to have an elite athlete perfecting her coaching skills with such a comprehensive program.”

The seminar will be held at the Tokai University Shonan Campus and judo training center in Kanawaga, near Tokyo, from November 8 to December 7. Alix is the first Canadian women to take part in this seminar.
