Montreal, March 31, 2018 – Canadian Kelita Zupancic lost the gold medal fight in the -70 kg category on Saturday at the Tbilisi Grand Prix, in Georgia.
“I’m happy to be back on the podium! A medal is always a positive thing. Consistency matters in this sport.”
The athlete from Whitby, ranked 28th internationally, was defeated by ippon against French Marie-Eve Gahié, currently ranked 4th in the world.
“I threw her, but then I put myself in a bad position,” explained the Ontarian, who won against the same opponent last weekend at the New York Open.
In the semi-final, the Canadian judoka won by waza-ari against Italian Carola Paissoni. In the preliminary rounds, she won both her fights by ippon, against Greek Elisavet Teltsidou and Georgian Mariam Tchanturia.
Kelita Zupancic will be back on the mat next Saturday at the Antalya Grand Prix, in Turkey. “Gold is always the goal!”
