Montréal, October 17, 2022 – Six clubs from four different provinces are the first recipients of Judo Canada’s newest bursary program: 2022-2023 LTD Promotion.
“For many years, we’ve been seeking ways to facilitate and encourage the implementation of our guidelines at the club level,” explained Judo Canada’s CEO and High Performance Director, Nicolas Gill.
“This program and this funding are very timely in terms of our strategic plan. Increasing the participation of girls and implementing our new tournament rules are crucial to building a solid foundation for the future. We hope this announcement will entice other clubs to partner with us.”
Over the coming year, a total of fifteen grants worth $500 each will be made available to all clubs in Canada for the organization of U8/U10/U12 tournaments, the implementation of the new rules or the creation of training groups for girls in the U12, U14 and U16 categories.
“We’re very pleased to receive this grant, which will allow us to continue to offer, as well as improve, our initiation tournaments, which focus on participation and are geared toward young athletes,” stated Roger Tremblay from Judoka Jonquière, adding that the program will benefit many for years to come.
“It’s a project that’s very important to us, and we’ll now be better equipped to provide a unique experience to new judokas. We want them to have fun, so that they continue to participate in judo. This grant will definitely help us accomplish our goals in that regard.”
